Nigerian youths have been admonished to come up with practical solutions that would address challenges facing the country, thereby contributing to national development.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Modupe Mujota gave the advice at the South West Youth Summit tagged, “Beyond 2019 Election: Engaging Youths in Nation Building,” organised by the Students Union Government of the Tai Solarin University of Education, held at the school’s TET Fund Hall, Ijagun, Ijebu- Ode.
The Commissioner who was represented by the Director, Primary and Higher Education, Mr. Olu Ola Aikulola, reminded them that the foundation of Nigeria was laid by young people, who sacrificed their personal interest at the altar of nationhood.
“I will like to take you down the memory lane, even if you were not born then, you learnt in history that the foundation of this nation was laid by young people who sacrificed their personal interest at the altar of nationhood, the likes of Nnamdi Azikwe, Obafemi Awolowo and Tafawa Balewa”.
She charged the present generation to identify opportunities in the current challenges confronting the country, with a view to proffering solutions, saying that by doing so, they would be playing their roles in nation building.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Senate President of the Union, Comrade Oladapo Abiodun, said the summit was organised to brainstorm on ways to contribute to the upliftment of the country, as well as roles expected of youths in nation building.
