Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Afolabi Afuape has pledged his loyalty and commitment to the development of sports in the State.
The Commissioner who made the pledge during a meeting with the Technical Committee set up by the State Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Dr Oluwadare Kehinde to see to the repositioning of sports in the State at his office in Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
Afuape who praised the efforts of the committee so far, noted that as a former Commissioner in the Ministry, he was aware of the challenges being faced, but with efforts of the government and stakeholders, sports in the State would witness turn around.
He admonished them to extend hands of fellowship to traditional rulers in the State for sponsorship, as government alone cannot fund the sector.
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun advised members of the committee to be transparent in their dealings, so as to attract sponsorships.
Speaking, Chairman of the Technical Committee on Sports, Prince Tunji Onatolu appreciated the efforts of the Commissioner on sports development, saying the mandate of the committee is to bring back moribund sports in the State.
