The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has affirmed that his administration would continue to make the interest of the people the core of governance and not betray the trust and mandate of the people, thus presenting a budget of ‘’Building our Future Together’’.
Governor Abiodun, who gave this assurance at the presentation of the year 2020 budget to the State House of Assembly, said his administration has embarked on programmes that were imperatives to socio-economic development of the State.
He listed the programme to include; provision of employment for the teeming youths through the establishment of Ogun Job Portal, expansion of the State’s economic base in the context of Public-Private-Partnership, reforming the machinery of government, improved welfare, establishment of Ogun State Public Works Agency, among others.
The Governor noted that infrastructure was key to his administration and this has led to the establishment of the Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA), which he said has proven to be an efficient, progressive, responsive and cost-effective strategy of rehabilitating existing roads across the three Senatorial Districts.
The State’s helmsman also disclosed that Ogun, in conjunction with its Lagos state counterpart had jointly presented a request to President Muhammadu Buhari to release two major expressways for rehabilitation and maintenance, in collaboration with private sector partners, adding that the two roads to be jointly rehabilitated were Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway and Ikorodu–Sagamu road.
On education, Abiodun said that his administration would continue to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship by providing a platform that would create and ensure regular interface between the industry and the academia, saying products of tertiary institutions in the State would be equipped with the required competence.
In the same vein, Governor Abiodun has promised to place high premium on Traditional Institutions in the State, saying, in year 2020, the recommendations of the Report by the Chieftaincy Review Committee would be fully implemented.
Abiodun said efforts would be made to help expand the revenue base of Local Governments across the State in order to reduce their heavy dependence on Federation Account Allocations.
