Ogun State government has reiterated its commitment to reposition Gateway United Football Club (GUFC), so it could be reckoned with in the world of football.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Job Creation and Youth Empowerment, Hon. Lekan Olude, stated this at the submission of Stakeholders Forum report by the 5-man Committee charged with the repositioning of GUFC to be one of the best in the country.
Olude, who maintained that the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun was passionate about sport development and its impact on the youth, said necessary infrastructure would be provided, as ‘’GUFC is very dear and instrumental to creating that lasting impact on our teeming youth’’.
The Special Adviser explained further that the need to change the perception of the people about GUFC necessitated the composition of the Committee to look into issues bedevilling the football.
He thanked the Committee for taking their time to critically look into the issues, with a promise that the report submitted would be implemented.
In his remark, the Committee Chairman, Mr. Paul Bankole said they were able to accomplish the task within ten days, despite being given two weeks to get it done, revealing that, about 25 stakeholders were invited to get firsthand information about the club, so as to get to the root of the matter and find a lasting solution to get the club back to its rightful position.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, said the need to reengineer the football club for better performance necessitated the setting up of the Committee, which they had done in the last eight days.
