Ogun State Government says it is working towards providing an interest-free loan to support the vulnerable in the society, to enable them to make a living for themselves and their families.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun who disclosed this when he received the management team of Ecobank in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said the gesture would be extended to women, as some of them are hardworking and needed support.
Governor Abiodun intimated his guests on some of the projects executed by his administration, stating that housing projects were ongoing, while the State has keyed into the various agricultural programmes of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), such as the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, among others, to enable the citizens to benefit.
Governor Abiodun said his government has involved people in the community in project selection and execution, while youth employment and empowerment was receiving adequate attention, as there was a nexus between unemployment and crime rate.
He decried the deplorable condition of some of the Federal roads like the Lagos-Abeokuta and Agbara-Atan roads, saying the state government was contemplating a public-private partnership in fixing them, as folding up of industries in the axis would affect the employment and revenue of the state.
The Governor described 2020 as a stressful year, as the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the socio-economic life of the people, adding however that his administration was able to cope as a result of the measures put in place before the outbreak.
He called on the bank to look at areas it would partner with the State, especially in the education, infrastructure, sport, health, agriculture, among others, pledging his administration’s full cooperation.
The Managing Director of the Bank, Patrick Akinwuntan who spoke earlier, pledged the support of the bank to the State government in the areas of Women Small Medium Enterprise Scheme and Agriculture, as the institution finds the State, as one of the leading lights in the Ease of Doing Business.
” I will like to thank members of your cabinet who have been supportive in every way possible, first in an environment to do business, we deal with all the States of the federation. I will like to acknowledge that we find Ogun State to be one of the leading lights for ease of doing business and a place to invest in our country”, he said.
