Secretaries to the State Government in Nigeria have been described as critical partners, who play pivotal roles in the day to day administration and entrenchment of good governance in the country.
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, who stated this in Abeokuta, while declaring open the 7th quarterly meeting of Secretaries to State Government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled State, urged them not to relent in their efforts, at supporting their State Governors towards ensuring the spread of dividends of democracy to the people of their respective States.
Describing the scribes as the engine room of their states, the Governor noted that the meeting would provide opportunity for them to exchange ideas and policies, with the view of communicating and implementing such in their Respective states, for the overall advancement of APC controlled States.
Senator Amosun, while speaking on security of the nation, explained that this should not be solely, the responsibility of government, as all apparatus must be put in place, to ensure safety of lives and property, saying, his administration has taken giant steps towards ensuring security and well being of the people, via strict pursuit of the five cardinal programmes of the rebuilding mission.
Welcoming guests earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Taiwo Adeoluwa said that the forum had assisted them greatly in performing their roles effectively and hinted that issues like the Primary Health Care, institutionalization of common policy and legislative frameworks among others would be deliberated upon.
“As Secretaries to Government of our States, it is our lot to guard the legal and policy outlooks of governments. This form has been of tremendous assistance in helping us to fulfil this role efficiently through the peer review methodology at our meetings and we are better equipped to discharge this onerous task’’, Adeoluwa added.
In a good will message delivered on behalf of his colleagues, Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Dr. Umar Bindir, commended Governor Amosun for his various developmental strides, particularly in the area of infrastructural development, lauding the organization of the meeting, which he described as pacesetting since inception.
