Information Communication Technology (ICT) has been described as proficiency tools, required by professionals to excel in the global competitive market.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor Alhaji Shuaib Salisu, disclosed this while featuring on a radio program in Abeokuta.
Alhaji Salisu, while speaking on the topic, ‘ICT and its Impact on National Development in Nigeria’, noted that ICT had advanced to a strategic tool for managing any organization effectively, contributing 14.5 percent to the Gross Domestic Product, which was far more than nine percent from Oil & Gas.
“Just imagine without ICT in last few months of this COVID-19 pandemic, what would the entire world look like with no movements, no flights, no physical contacts but then, businesses were going on and we were getting information and updates every moment, that is the least ICT could offer”, he submitted.
The Chief of Staff, who maintained that ICT was a tool for achieving good governance, emphasised that it would guarantee transparency in the allocation of State resources and equally drive performance output, thus creating an effective documentation system, that would outlived any administration.
He admonished government at all levels to patronize locally made software, as it would develop expertise in tandem with global best practices in the ICT space and further provide job opportunities and competencies.
