Ogun State government has said that it is working with the Security Trust Fund to provide State-of-the-art communication equipment, to complement the recently procured 100 vehicles and 200 motorcycles, to curb crimes in the State.
Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, disclosed this during the decoration of newly promoted officers and launching of the counter terrorist and Agro Rangers unit of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command Permanent Site along Kobape, Abeokuta.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said there was need to put in place communication gadgets in the procured vehicles to aid information flow, so that the team could work together and provide adequate security.
“The new initiative of the counter tourism Agro Rangers unit of this Corps is a very timely one and this shows the foresight of the corps and its adaptability to provide adequate security for our people.
‘’Tourism is a very big part of our agenda and the Eco-tourism was one of the fastest growing areas of the world. With this Corps supporting us, I think people will be more comfortable to go around and do their business”, he said.
Governor Abiodun while congratulating the newly promoted officers, urged them not to relent on their efforts, noting that to whom much was given, much was also expected.
Earlier in his welcome address, the NSCDC State Commandant, Hammed Abodunrin pointed out that security operation was a living profession and practitioners must be alive and responsive to the yearnings of the people, as far as issues of protection of lives and property were concerned.
The Commandant added that, as part of measures put in place to ensure public safety and welfare of the Corps personnel, the Commandant General approved the promotion of 200 personnel, spanning from Inspector cadres to Deputy Commander of Corps in Ogun State, which happened to be the highest number in the Country.
While charging the newly Officers to strive hard and justify the privilege, he also assured those who are yet to be promoted not to be discouraged, as there was another directive for compilation of other eligible officers’ list for promotion.
Highlights of the programme included; the decoration of newly promoted Officers, inspection of the office complex and special display by the officers of the Agro Rangers Unit.
