As part of efforts to alleviate the negative effect of COVID-19 lockdown measures, Ogun State government has distributed food and other essential items to Local Government retirees.
Speaking during the handing over of items to the executive members of the retiree groups, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Local Government Pensions, Mrs. Irene Afolashade Kokumo said, the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has graciously approved the exercise, in order to make life bearable for the senior citizens, particularly at this pandemic period.
She noted that the distribution exercise would be done in phases, adding that it was the desire of the State Government to ensure that the most vulnerable local government retirees benefit from this magnanimity.
The Permanent Secretary said, apart from ensuring prompt payment of monthly pensions to retirees, the Governor has once again demonstrated his act of kindness to the senior citizens by this gesture, assuring the pensioners of the State government’s commitment towards their well-being.
In their separate remarks, the Executives of the benefitted retirees groups, Dr. Julius Akinbami (JP), Chief Sikiru Ayilara and Mr. Zaacheaus Adekoya, lauded the present administration’s efforts, stating that it was a manifestation of its commitment and love for senior citizens in the State.
