Ogun State House of Assembly has called for implementation of a toll-free line, in order for the public to inform the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development of any destitute on streets and major bus stops across the State.
A member of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Kunle Sobukola, who gave the charge during the 2020 budget performance of the Ministry, said the feedback mechanism would ensure a total eradication of destitute from the State, noting that constant raid of destitute without proper monitoring would result in futility, as they were bound to go back to the street.
Responding, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Funmi Efuwape explained that the Ministry had started work on having a toll- free line, as well as constituting a task force to enable citizens inform it of any destitute sighted on the streets within the State.
She added that the Ministry’s landed property under construction at Oke- Degun in Abeokuta, would house, train and empower the raided destitute before rehabilitating them back to the society.
