The proposed construction of the University of Medicine and Medical Services by the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, would in the nearest future attract medical tourism, particularly, to Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun made this known at the launching and endowment for expansion of the proposed facility at Ajibayo Village, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta.
Commending the leadership of the hospital for its giant stride, Governor Amosun stated that the university, when completed, would enhance the status of the state, as one of the best in healthcare service delivery, while complementing the administration’s drive in the health sector.
Earlier in his remarks, Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, advocated the allocation of at least 10 percent from the budget of the Federal and other tiers of governments to the health sector.
In his remark, the Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Musa Olomu, while thanking the Governor for allocating 170 hectares of land for the project, assured that the university would be of high standard, capable of rendering services that could be comparable to its counterparts in other parts of the world.
