Ogun State College of Health Technology (OSCOHTECH), Ilese Ijebu-Ode, in affiliation with Kwara State University is set to commence degree programmes in Environmental Health Science and other related science courses. Provost of the College, Dr. Abiodun Oladunjoye who disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in his office, said the affiliation, which was first of its kind in the South West region of the country, was made possible due to the school falling within the radius range permitted by the National University Commission (NUC) for affiliation, as well as availability of facilities that satisfied the University’s requirement.
Oladunjoye who disclosed that the relationship would enable the College run degree programmes in Public Health, Nutrition and Dietetics, among others, assured that the standard which the institution was noted for would not be compromised, appreciating all stakeholders and the management of Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, for their involvements in making the affiliation possible.
“I want to thank Professor Wale Sawyer, an indigene of Ogun State for bringing the programme to his own State. I also want to thank all those who made this possible. The programme is not run anywhere in this South-West and OSCOHTECH is the first to start the programme”, the Provost said.
The Provost stated that 45 students are currently undergoing screening to resume classes for the Environmental Health Science Programme, assuring that other courses would commence soon.
Also speaking, the Dean, Allied Health and Environmental Science, Kwara State University and facilitator of the programme, Prof. Henry Olawale Sawyer, said the affiliation was meant to extend the programme, run by the University to other parts of the country, to ensure even spread of its professionals.
He said one important factor that aided the affiliation was the long years and strength of OSCOHTECH in the areas of health services, expressing hope that the initiatives would enable the students advance for further studies after completing their ND or HND programme in the College.
