Members of the Bar and Bench have been enjoined on the need to step up their roles, as the mouthpiece of the judiciary, whose collective reputation gives the public the desired confidence in the justice system and the rule of law.
The outgoing Chief Judge of Ogun State, Hon. Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, gave this charge during a special court sitting in her honour, at the High Court Complex, Isabo, Abeokuta.
Olopade disclosed that the synergy that existed between the Bar and Bench has laid credence to the administration of Justice, admonishing Judges and Lawyers to adhere strictly to the oath and conducts of the profession, as they were expected to be ministers in the Temple of justice.
“You need to step up your roles as the mouth piece of the judiciary and as Ministers in the temple of Justice, your first duty as a lawyer engaged in litigation is to the court as an officer of the court, your next obligation, in order of priority and importance is to your client. The collective reputation of the Bar and Bench gives the public the desired confidence in our Justice system and the rule of law.
‘’As Ministers in the Temple of Justice, Lawyers should not desecrate or encourage their clients to desecrate the court of law or those who preside over them. We should guard jealously this profession of ours and put the bad eggs in check’’, Olopade emphasized.
She appreciated the cooperation of all, who worked with her as the Chief Judge of the State, which she attributed to the success recorded during her tenure, adding that the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism, which was one of her major achievements, has been entrenched in the Justice system of Ogun State.
