Old Students of Government Science and Technical Colleges in Ogun State have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun, for appointing professional to steer the wheel of technical education in the State.
Giving the commendation during an interactive session with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the old students said his appointment was apt, considering the qualification, experience and vigour which Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa brought to revamp technical and vocational education.
Speaking, the Secretary, Government Science Technical College, Old Students Association, Ijebu-Ode, Mr. James Orenaiya, promised the Association’s support for the government in reviving technical colleges, in order to make the State the industrial hub of Nigeria.
Responding, the Special Adviser described old students Association as a tool for change and sustainability, which had promoted independent and self-learning, adding that, members immense contribution to their alma mater was encouraging.
Prof. Odemuyiwa pointed out that there was need to make skill acquisition, technical and vocational education more attractive among the youths, noting that the nation was at a period, where formal and informal education were needed for acquiring better employment.
Earlier in her contribution, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Abosede Ogunleye, gave kudos to the Association for contributing their quota to improving technical education.
