The Ogun State Government has reiterated that trading and displaying of wares on walkways and road medians remains banned across the State, saying offenders would be prosecuted.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Tpl. Yetunde Dina stated this when she led a team of sanitation officials to enforce the directive at Sango Ota Market in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Lagos.
Represented by Deputy Director, Environmental Health Management Department, Sanitarian Oluwemimo Onaeko, Dina, said the State Government was determined to enforce the law, enjoining such traders to move to designated market places rather than display their wares on walkways and road medians near various markets across the State.
According to her, ‘’this is not only against the environmental law but it also exposes them to danger of vehicular accidents that can lead to loss of lives’’.
Also speaking the Divisional Police Officer of the Sango Police Station, CSP Godswill Emahon, warned erring traders to desist from the act, saying the division was ready to assist the State Government in enforcing the directive, should the trend continue.
