The Ogun State Government says it will continue to leverage on its geographical location and natural resources to further broaden its economic base.

The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun stated this at the closing ceremony of the 9th Gateway Trade Fair, held at M.K.O Abiola Trade Fair Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, explained that businesses already established in the State would not only be provided with an enabling environment and liberal policies, but would also be given platforms, like the annual Gateway Trade Fair to showcase their products and services.

According to him, nations that desire accelerated economic growth have continued to give a pride of place to trade fairs exhibitions because of the propensity to promote local businesses, amongst other benefits.

‘’Such desire for economic growth and economic dependence does not only remove the barrier associated with tariff and or import duty, but also ease the stress associated with immigration laws and compliance’’, he stated.

Amosun noted that the Trade Fair has grown in leaps and bounds to become a very powerful means of marketing for various industrialists, suppliers, budding entrepreneurs, businessmen and women who converge on a yearly basis to break new grounds, in form of sourcing for new customers among others.

He said the current efforts at revitalising Nigeria’s comparative advantage in agriculture and agro-processing, makes the theme of this year’s fair, ‘’Agricultural Industry Production, Processing, Packaging; Synergy to meet Local and International Market in the Face of Globalization’’, was appropriate, calling on all stakeholders to work together and add value to agricultural production that would surpass local market demands and meet foreign markets standard, saying Agriculture has the potential to create wealth, employment, poverty alleviation and food security.

‘’Therefore, attention needs to be shifted to agriculture and its value chain. It is very important to note that our administration acknowledges the need for the promotion of agricultural value chain for the full recovery of our economy and a veritable avenue to diversify our economy,’’ he enthused.

Earlier in her address, the President of the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA), Chief Mrs Adesola Adebutu, commended the State government for its support in creating conducive business environment.
