Ogun State Auditor General, Mr. Babajide Olubanjo, says financial appropriation and regulation are essential to prudent spending in any given organisation.
Olubanjo gave this assertion at the State House of Assembly during a public hearing for a bill on establishment of Ogun State Audit Service Commission, which he noted was crucial to accountability, saying when established, independence would be given to audit services in the State.
He reiterated that the agency’s autonomy would equally facilitate its legal backing for smooth operation for the attainment of financial autonomy, adding that the office of the Auditor General will perform its duties without hindrances or interference from any arm of government.
The Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon, Olakunle Oluomo while welcoming stakeholders to the forum, said the bill was part of the efforts of the Assembly towards realisation of the present administration’s vigorous pursuit of anti corruption war, noting that the gathering was meant to achieve the objective of establishing and strengthening institutions that would help to actualize the goal.
The Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Museq Lamidi, commended the Auditor General, for the laudable move of establishing the Audit Service Commission, which he described as a lofty initiative.
