A manufacturing company along Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway in Sango-Ota axis of Ogun State has been sealed off by government for breaching environmental law.
The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye, during a routine monitoring of industries in Sango –Ota, said the company, which manufactures roofing materials had been discharging sludge and waste water from its processes into the environment over the years.
Oyeleye, who was represented by a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Alhaji Oyesiku Amosun, said government was compelled to take the action after several warnings to the company against discharging its effluent to the environment, which poses health hazards to residents living in the area, saying the company would be unsealed only after it had resolved to install an Effluent Treatment Plant, that would take care of its wastes.
The Commissioner reiterated government’s commitment at ensuring that industries operating in the State control their emissions and treat effluent in the best interest of the people, adding that the Ministry would not leave any stone unturned at addressing environmental pollution.
He disclosed that many companies are already complying with the environmental law of the State, saying those found wanting would be sanctioned appropriately.
