Forty-Five sanitation offenders who flouted the extant Environmental Sanitation laws of Ogun State were apprehended and prosecuted at various locations across the State, during the October environmental sanitation exercise. Speaking in Abeokuta during the exercise, the State’s Head of Service, Engr Lanre Bisiriyu, said sanitation should not be a monthly affair in the State, enjoining the people to always ensure a clean and healthy environment. Engr. Bisiriyu advised citizens to imbibe good culture of proper waste disposal, to prevent littering of the environment with waste and avoid spread of air borne diseases. Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment TPL (Mrs.) Yetunde Dina, said the State would not take the issue of environmental sanitation and waste management for granted, hence the prosecution of the offenders should serve as deterrent to others. “Stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse in waterways, water channels, roads and unauthorized places and observe sanitation in your homes and offices. It is important to maintain a clean environment and stay healthy’’, Dina noted. Olabisi Fabajo, Press Officer, OGEPA
