Ogun State Government has declared its passion for sports, saying it is determined to provide a system for the development of athletes, who would compete for laurels for the State and Nigeria.
The State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun made this declaration at the presentation of the Torch of Unity of the 20th National Sport Festival, tagged Edo 2020, at the Forecourt, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Abiodun said the Sport Festival was an opportunity to bring the youth together, discover new talents and develop them, pledging his support to the State contingent to the festival.
He admonished the contingents to be of good conduct, by following instructions on health and security, in order to achieve a hitch-free outing.
Speaking with newsmen at the event, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr. Oluwadare Kehinde expressed optimism that team Ogun would do the State proud at the festival, as Ogun remains the first among equals.
The Torch of Unity is a symbolic representation of Unity, Peace and Solidarity among Nigerians, especially Athletes and officials in the 36 States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Shuaib Salisu, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths, Hon. Olamide Lawal, Rtd. Star Athlete, Chief (Mrs.) Falilat Ogunkoya, among others.
