OGUN MOVES TO CURTAIL FLOOD PRONE HAZARDS ON ROADS.

As part of measures to curtail occurrence of hazards on roads, Ogun State Government has made concerted efforts towards the reconstruction of falling bridges and culverts across the State caused by the July 2020 flash flood.

 Special Adviser to the State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Akeem Adesina disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen during an inspection to some sites at Ewang–Idi Aba bypass, Omida- Ijeja, INEC-Ijeun-Tuntun, Safari area in Onikolobo and Adigbe-Opako roads, among others.

Adesina revealed that the State Government was resolute in its infrastructural development drive, towards ensuring accessible roads for citizens across the three Senatorial Districts, affirming that the ongoing road infrastructural programmes would include; standard drainages and asphalting of failed portions along the affected areas, as well as putting up of a solid throwback to control overflow during heavy downpour.

He said the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction of waterways were not limited to the State capital, but also extended to Odo- Afa bridge in Imeko -Afon Local Government Area in Ogun West Senatorial District, as well as some other parts ravaged by flood.

          “Following the heavy downpour in July 2020, the State has identified the need to put in place necessary infrastructural measures to curb untoward hardship for road users, hence the government is going round to rehabilitate as well as reconstruct the roads where the need arises”, the Special Adviser said.

A resident of Safari, Onikolobo, Mr. Abel Olusegun commended the present adminstration for the complete overhauling of the collapse box culvert, saying government had shown genuine interest to alleviate the sufferings of the masses.

Similarly, Mrs. Tojuola Temitope, a resident along Ewang Estate -Idi Aba and Mr. Muisi Jelili, a commercial bike operator gave kudos to the Dapo Abiodun led administration for the timely intervention and quality of work done in the area, saying the construction work would ease passage for residents.
