Ogun State Judicial Service Commission has assured of its commitment to the sustainability of a vibrant judicial system in the State through appointment of eligible officers to various positions, to further aid access to justice by the citizens.
The Secretary to the Commission, Mrs. Olufunke Odubanjo gave the remarks while taking turn to defend the 2020 budget performance before the Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions, led by Hon. Solomon Osho, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Odubanjo said the Commission within the period under review, approved the appointment of two Chief Registrars for the High Court and Customary Court of Appeal and approved the appointment of an Acting Chief Registrar for the High Court, while the State High Court and Customary courts of Appeal got five new Deputy Chief Registrars.
She added that the Commission consented to the appointment of a Coordinating Director for Ogun State Multi-Door Court House (OMDC) with the promotion of five eligible magistrates during the 2020 promotion exercise.
In a related development, the Deputy Chief Registrar, State High Court, Mr. Martins Akinyemi presented the budget performance of the Judiciary intimating the lawmakers that efforts were put in place to inaugurate Customary Court of Appeal, State Multi-Door Court House, Sagamu and Magistrate Court at Igbesa.
Akinyemi noted that the sum of
N34.4m was generated as internally generated revenue from court fees, fines and earnings from administrations of estates, which include probate earnings.
In another development, the Transition Committee Chairmen for Yewa North and Imeko/Afon Local Government Councils, David Bankole and Olusola Oke presented their 2020 budget performance before the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led by Hon. Akeem Balogun.
Oke noted that Imeko/Afon council recorded a total of
N654m from independent revenue and statutory allocation, while his Yewa North counterpart, Bankole said N1.564b was gotten from statutory allocation and internally generated revenue with N7.059 expended on capital projects within the period under review.
