Ogun State Government has installed and presented staff of office to 30 monarchs since the commencement of the second term of the present administration.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, who revealed this at an interactive session with the press in Abeokuta, said traditional institution, remains an avenue through which government relays its policies and programmes for effective administration to ensure all round development, stressing the need to maintain unity and peaceful co-existence at the grassroots.
According to him, ‘’we have 253 Traditional Rulers and 2,706 Baales in Ogun State at the moment, and the relationship between the government and the traditional institutions is very cordial. We are doing our best to ensure that traditional rulers in the State are well taken care of. Our government has been very supportive of the traditional rulers, particularly in the area of welfare by augmenting their monthly stipends’’.
On the activities of the Local Government and Local Council Development Areas in the State, Ojuko said the creation of additional 37 Local Government Development Areas has paved way for meaningful developments at the grassroots through the provision of basic social amenities.
The Commissioner expressed optimism that the Vigilante Service of Ogun (VSO), in collaboration with other security agencies in the State, would continue to maintain peace, while ensuring security of lives and property of the people.
