The Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Sulaiman Adamu has expressed Federal Government’s readiness to collaborate with the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration, to tackle water-borne diseases in Ogun State.
Engr. Adamu stated this during a working visit to Abeokuta, to inaugurate the Joint WASH Sector Emergency Working Group for Monitoring, Assessment and Interaction of Response to cholera outbreak in Ogun State, called on the Committee members to work as a team, to safeguard the lives of residents.
The Minister, represented by the Deputy Director, Water Quality Control and Sanitation, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mr. Olu-Daniel Ibiyemi, Engr. Adamu, enjoined the State Ministry of Rural Development, to ensure effective coverage of rural areas in the campaign to inculcate hand washing with soap and clean water in residents, through the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWATSAN).
He noted that hand-washing with soap and clean water must come after playing, before breast-feeding, after shaking hands, before, during and after preparation of food, after using the toilet, touching refuse, as well as after touching animals.
The Committee comprised representatives of the Ministries of Education, Health and Environment, World Health Organisation (WHO), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Environmental Sanitation Officer, Red Cross Society and Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
The team later visited Isale-Oja Kuto, and Lafenwa in Abeokuta South and Abeokuta North Local Government Areas, to sensitize the residents.
