Students in AIONIAN schools in Ogun State have brought home 32 out of the 49 laurels up for grabs at the 2020 edition of AIONIAN Games, held recently in Ilesha, Osun State.
The students drawn from Yewa College, Ilaro, Abeokuta Grammar School, Remo Secondary School, Sagamu and Ijebu ode Grammar School, Ijebu Ode, which makes up the AIONIAN group of schools in the State participated in various competitions, ranging from academics to sporting Activities.
The Commissioner in the Ministry of Education Science and Technology, Prof Sidi Osho, while congratulating the students and their school Heads for a successful outing, during the formal presentation of the Trophies to the Ministry in her Office, at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, underscored the need for learners to balance academics with extracurricular activity of their choice.
Prof Osho said, expressed joy that the students had done the State proud, charging them to see the feat as the beginning of better things to come their way, if they stay focused, commending the efforts of the Principals, teachers and organisers of the competition, for the initiative, which she noted began more than 80 years ago.
While appreciating Governor Abiodun for providing the needed support for the schools to participate in the competition and showing uncommon interest in activities of the students in the State, she urged the teachers to remain dedicated to duties, and pay attention to the students, who spent more time in school with them than with their parents.
Earlier in his remarks, the Principal, Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba Abeokuta, Mr. Oludare Sorinola appreciated Governor Abiodun’s support, promising not to relent in ensuring a balance in academics and extra curriculum activities for future purposes.
Responding on behalf of students, Master Tomiwa Fadipe of Abeokuta Grammar School, who came first in the Science Competition for the senior category, promised to work harder to win more laurels for the State in the next edition of the Games.
