Ogun State has again proven to be the Gateway in the education sector, as it bagged four of the President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Award.
The awards which were received in different Categories, included; Best School Teacher (1st Runner-up) Public category, clinched by Adeeko Olalekan, a Computer Science Teacher at Baptist Boys High School, Saje, Overall Winner in the Private Category went to Adebiyi Temitayo, an Economist teacher at Varsity Children Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode, Best School Administrator, Public Category won by Mr. Ogun Olaniyi of Aderenle High School (Junior) Ifo, and Best School (1st Runner up) Public Category goes to Mayflower School (Senior) Ikenne, Ogun State.
Speaking at the presentation during the 2019 World Teachers’ Day Celebration, with the theme, “Young Teachers; The Future of the Profession”, held at the Eagle Square, Abuja, President Muhammad Buhari revealed that one of the Sustainable Development Goals recommendations by UNESCO recognised teachers as key to the achievements of the 2030 Education Agenda.
Represented by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami, President Buhari noted that there was need for government at all levels to give attention to the continuous role of teachers in imparting knowledge for human and capital development.
He explained that plans were underway to collaborate with State Governors to provide incentives for teachers, especially in the rural areas, in order to encourage young talents to the teaching profession.
In his submission, The Minister for Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, represented by Minister of State for Education, Hon, Chukuemeka Nwajiuba, urged the Stakeholders in the Education sector to support government at all levels to achieve a desirable leaning platform that would make Nigeria Completive in the years ahead.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Mr. Ogun Olaniyi thanked the State Government for nominating them, pledging not to relent in their support for further development of education in the State and the nation at large.
