In its bid to checkmate abuses in the collection of levies across the State through various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government, the Ogun State House of Assembly has asked revenue collection Agencies to harmonise their operation in order to arrest the trend.
Deputy Speaker of the Assembly and Chairman of the Ad hoc committee investigating illegal and multiple ticketing, Honourable Oludare Kadiri charged the Ministries of Agriculture, Transportation, Environment, Forestry, Industry, Trade and Investment, as well as the State’s Internal Revenue Service, to synergise with a view to nipping it in the bud.
He said the House received petition from the general public and companies bordering on ticketing, charging the affected agencies to investigate all tolls being collected, with a view to determining its authenticity.
In her remarks, a member of the Committee, Mrs. Modupe Mujota, advised all the toll collecting agencies to ensure they block leakages and ensure adequate supervision of the issuance of receipt, in order to forestall short-changing Government.
Also speaking, Care Taker Chairman, Odogbolu Local Government, Hon. Obafemi Onakoya, submitted that Local Government should be involved in the harmonization of the proposed ticketing system, as they were the closest to the people, saying, ‘’it is those in the Local Government Areas who bear the brunt of multiple ticketing the most’’.
The Committee thereafter adjourned the hearing to Wednesday, August 12, 2020, summoning the Secretaries and Chairmen of all the transport associations to appear before it and announced that the ticketing by the State’s Parks and Garage Sanitation be put on hold, pending the House investigation.
