Ogun State government has urged industries operating in the State who are yet to obtain environmental approvals to do so to avoid sanctions.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye, made this call during an inspection tour to industries at Ogere-Remo axis of the State.

He disclosed that the State Environmental Sanitation Task Force teams had discovered that many industries operate without Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or Environmental implication Studies (EIS) approvals, saying it was no longer business as usual for such industries.

Represented by a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Oyesiku Amosun, Oyeleye called on defaulting industries to obtain necessary approvals through government approved environmental consultants, as failure to do so could attract fines.

The Commissioner reiterated the need for industries to put in place waste water treatment plants, as the law prohibits discharge of effluent with constituents beyond permissible limits into the environment.

He promised that the activities of industries in the State would continually be to safeguard the health of its people,
