Ogun State Government says it is working towards accessing funds from the Ecological Fund Office, to effectively address the gully erosion menace at Owa Kurudu, Ijebu-Ode.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Bolaji Oyeleye made this known while defending the Ministry’s 2019 budget proposal before members of the Finance and Appropriation Committee of the State House of Assembly, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Oyeleye said the Ministry was intensifying effort on erosion control, to avert environmental degradation in any part of the State, adding that similar erosion control measure would be replicated next year at Abule Otun, Abeokuta North, Odo-Eran, Idiroko, Ifelodun, Ota and Isope, Ijebu-Ode.
The Commissioner stated that the Ministry has proposed the sum of N3,93bn for the 2019 fiscal year, with the sum of N3.4bn for capital expenditure and N525m for recurrent expenditure, while targeting the sum of N200m as its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He added that, as part of efforts to improve waste management in the State, the Ministry was currently carrying out a feasibility study that would aid effective waste management in the State.
A member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Akinpelu Aina while commending the Ministry and its sister Agency, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA), for their efforts at maintaining healthy environment, urged them to redouble their efforts in the coming year.
