Ogun State Government has assured that it would continue to provide conducive environment to ensure that commercial, agricultural and industrial activities thrive in the State.
The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun stated this while declaring open this year’s edition of Gateway Trade Fair, with the theme, “Agricultural Industry, Production, Processing and Packaging Synergy to Meet Local and Foreign Markets in the Face of Globalisation”, held at the Trade Fair Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Amosun who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, said the attention given to agricultural development has led to increase in food production and gradually turning the State into the food basket of the nation, noting that the theme for this year’s fair came at the right time when the nation was seriously diversifying its mono economy to agricultural production for export.
The Governor revealed that the State, in collaboration with the Bank of Industry has provided N1bn a single digit interest rate loan for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operators, saying that over N600m has so far been disbursed to 112 Cooperative Societies, of 1, 046 members.
While commending the State Ministry of Commerce and Industries and the State Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industries Mines and Agriculture, for sustaining the legacies of the fair, the Governor said the fair has no doubt, create awareness on economic potentials that abound, as well as contributed immensely to the economic growth of the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Jonathan Onajobi, urged industries and private institutions to avail themselves of the opportunity to expand their catchment area, by promoting thier products and services.
He called on the general public to come out en masse and benefit from the ongoing fair, where they will have the opportunity from buying directly from manufacturers.
In her remark, the National President of Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Iyalode Alaba Lawson, represented by Chief Jare Oyesola, appreciated the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led government for creating an enabling environment for the successful hosting of the fair and encourage stakeholders to buy into the opportunities provided.
