The Ogun State government under the leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured of prompt remittance of cooperatives deductions, to ensure sustenance of the societies’ accomplishments in the areas of provision of affordable housing, supply of cars, and credit facilities for members’ business expansion, among other benefits.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, made this known at a – day seminar organised by Onward Cooperatives, for its members at the On-Tec Event Centre, Abeokuta, with the theme, ‘’Co-operatives: Antidote to Economic Strangulation’’.
She noted that the theme of this year’s event was apt, as it unveils the inherent potentials and opportunities in any well managed Cooperative body, admonishing members to put all hands on deck to uphold these laudable accomplishments by adhering strictly to laws that a minimum of 10 percent Net Surplus be set aside for capacity building of members.
Ogunremi commended the vision and efforts of the Onward Cooperatives management in the area of business diversification and wealth generation, training and re-training of members of staffs of the society.
‘’In Ogun State, Cooperatives have provided affordable and befitting housing and supply of cars, offer credit facilities for business expansion, boosted agricultural production by providing easy access for bulk purchase of agricultural inputs, her contribution in haulage and transportation business cannot be over-emphasised’’, she said.
The President, Onward Cooperatives, Mr. Olamiji Sowunmi said, the cooperative was mandated to hold seminars for its members on rotational basis, for proper information dissemination, stressing that, once information gets circulated within members, it would reduce crisis in cooperative societies.
‘’The seminar for this year will not only handle or touch cooperative aspect of our lives but will equally handle health aspect, so as to know our health status and also the vocational aspect that can help members on money making’’, he stated.
Participants at the seminar, Mr. Jide Olaonipekun and Mr. Ezekiel Olabode, from Ijebu Central and Yewa respectively, said, the seminar has broaden their knowledge on how to manage cooperatives resources during economic crisis and also afforded them to know their health status, among other things.
