Women in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State have been trained on skill acquisition to enable them have means of livelihood that could sustain them and their families, rather than waiting on government for their needs.
Speaking at the training programme, Commissioner for Woman Affairs, Mrs Abiola Kufile -Okonji, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor
on Woman Affairs, Miss Toyosi Anifowose, said the training was aimed at
empowering the women so as to be able to sustain themselves and play
supporting rules to their husbands.
“As a woman, acquiring skills should be a priority, so as
to be self independent. I want you to make use of this opportunity which include making of liquid soap, body cream, small chops among others,” she said.
In his welcome address, the Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Arc
Gbolade Oduwole, commended the initiative of the State government for bringing succour to the women folks in the area.
“This training will go a long way in affecting the homes
positively, infact we are particularly grateful and commend the
Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for this kind of
opportunity given to our women,” he said.
One of the participants, Mrs. Olaronke Ogunsolu, appreciated the State government’s kind gesture at encouraging women through skills acquisition training, saying it would enable them earn income to cater for their families.
