The distribution of relief materials provided by the State government to cushion effect of the state-wide lockdown, occasioned by the corona virus continues today in the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
In a statement released by the State Ministry of Information and Strategy, the items were collected from the MTR hall located within the housing estate, Ibara, Abeokuta by the Chairmen and other officials of the six Local Government Areas in the district and were later distributed to various Community Development Associations (CDAs).
In Abeokuta North Local Government, the items, according to the statement, were initially taken to the premises of the Nigeria Police Lafenwa Divisional Headquarters, where leaders of the CDAs took turns to collect their rations.
Also commenting, the Chairman, Ewekoro Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Babayemi pointed out that the items were to be given to only the poor and vulnerable, in accordance with government directives.
He added that his Council had put in place a sub-committee, comprising clerics and market leaders, to ensure that the items were distributed across the 10 zones in the area, with the social distancing policy strictly adhered.
In their reactions, some of the beneficiaries in Abule Otun Community in Lafenwa, including an octogenarian, Pa Sanni Safari and Mrs. Maria Ogunmuyiwa, commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the gesture, describing it as timely, as it would go a long way in ameliorating their conditions while the lockdown lasted.
