Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promote universal and safe means of transportation of goods across the State, as it begun collaboration with the Inland Water Transport operators.
The Director of Administration and Supplies, Bureau of Transportation (BOT), Mrs. Olayemi Oshilaja stated this at a parley with the Ogun Inland Water Transport Operator and Fishermen Association and the Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters of Nigeria (ATBOWATON), held at Iwopin Jetty, Ogun-Waterside.
Oshilaja said the event marks another milestone in the present administration’s resolve to develop the youth and create more employment opportunities that would engender visible economy for the State and individual prosperity.
She advised transport operators to adhere strictly to the laws and terms of the Inland Water Transport and Fishing business, to avoid penalties, adding that BOT would continue to monitor, supervise and evaluate their activities.
“The Bureau of Transportation in conjunction with other relevant agencies will continue to monitor, supervise and evaluate the activities of your members, which will help to create conducive environment and socio-economic development’’, she said
The Director noted that the launch of the Association into the league of progressive organisations was a call to serve the citizen and partner with government to improve socio-economic development across the State.
In his address, National President ATBOWATON, Mr. Ganiyu Balogun, explained that Ogun Inland Water Transport Operators and Fishermen Association was inaugurated in July 2019 with the responsibility to create more routes in all waterways, to ferry ninety percent of waterways users.
He commended the present administration for the infrastructural facilities, soliciting for continued support and co-operation from the government to procure more elegant boats through investors.
