Ogun State is set to join the global community to celebrate the 2019 World Girl-Child Day on Friday, October 11, 2019.
A release signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Oluranti Oladeinde, indicated that the one-day event, with the theme “Girl Force: Unscripted and Unstoppable”, would be commemorated with lectures and symposiums on topical issues of relevance to the girl-child.
The release added that activities marking the event will form part of the concerted efforts by the State government to ensure the dignity of the girl-child and women-folk alike.
It affirmed that the active collaboration among the State Government, the United Nations and the Woman Advocate Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC), would ensure full implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, which was one of measures designed to guarantee protection of any and every vulnerable citizen of the State, the girl-child inclusive.
The event which is billed to hold at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta by 9am would attract participation of top government functionaries, women groups, non-governmental organizations, law enforcement, students and other interested members of the public.
