Ogun State government has assured fair and enabling environment for traditional rulers to discharge effectively, their responsibilities, as they are the link between government and the people.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Honourable Afolabi Afuape, made this known during a courtesy visit to Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle in his Palace at Ilaro, urging the Traditional Council to avoid issues that could cause crisis, as the present administration would always follow due process in conducting the affairs of the institution.
He promised that the Ministry would not take any step about the Council without proper consultation of the Paramount Rulers, noting that government may not be able to meet all their demands but would do all in its disposal to ensure they were comfortable.
He appreciated Oba Olugbenle for the report presented while he chaired the Committee on the 75 upgraded Obas carried out by the last administration, saying the report would guide government in solving some of the challenges being faced presently in the Council.
“I appreciate the fair report presented by the last committee that you chaired. This report will navigate us into solving a lot of problems in the state’s traditional council and just as the Governor has promised, there will be equity and fairness”, he said.
In his remark, Oba Olugbenle charged the Commissioner to be a role model to his colleagues, enjoining him to be guided in his conducts towards traditional rulers and not compromise to pressures from various institutions or individuals, while praying for successful tenure of office and divine guidance.
