Following the pronouncement by Governor Dapo Abiodun to reach out to 500,000 families in Ogun State, to ensure their wellbeing and allay fear of hunger during 14 days lockdown order, to contain the spread of Coronavirus, Caretaker Chairmen across the 20 Local Governments areas of the State have been charged to ensure fair distribution of the relief items.

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape who gave the charge in Abeokuta, said, each package containing consumables would serve at least, an average of four people per household, noting that hand sanitizer would also be given out to ensure their safety and healthy living.

Afuape further disclosed that the State government had setup COVID-19 Committee, headed by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele and was also replicated at the Local Government level, Chaired by the Transition Chairmen, with other members drawn from Local Community Development Associations (LCDAs) Chairmen, Baales, Iyalojas, Permanent Secretaries and Directors from Public Service, representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), League of Imams/Alfas and also some elected State and Local Government’s appointees.

He said members of the Committee would assist in monitoring even distribution to allow for the items to get to the households as promised by the Governor without compromise or trying to favour particular households, saying the distribution would be ‘’on door-to-door basis’’ and a continuous exercise while the stay at home lasted.

The Commissioner also called on the people to follow and adhere strictly to government’s order and avoid acts that could lead to harassment by taskforce put in place to enforce the stay at home order, saying the lockdown would curb further spread of the COVID-19 virus in the State and across the country.

He however called on the citizens to abide by the rules and principles set to curb the transmission of the virus by maintaining social distance, use of hand sanitizer, washing of hands regularly and other directives as stated by experts.
