As part of efforts to further ensure success of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in the country, an appeal has gone to the Federal government to look inward and introduce more self acquisition skill programs into the scheme.
The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun made the appeal at the closing ceremony of the 2018 Batch ‘ C ‘ Stream I Orientation Course, held at Sagamu Orientation Camp , International Stadium, Sagamu.
Governor Amosun, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sport, Hon. Afolabi Afuape said the State government has been doing a lot to ensure that Nigerian graduates are adequately rewarded through provision of various opportunities, especially on skills acquisition, which according to him was the only fastest means of combating unemployment in the country.
His words “year in and out we continue to produce thousands of graduates for different batches across the State of the federation with little or no spaces in government offices and white collar jobs arena, we are appealing to the Federal government to further help introduce more self acquisition programs into NYSC system with necessary equipment to fully engaged fresh graduates’’, Amosun said.
He said the present administration in the State would not relent at ensuring that the teeming youths explore opportunity of natural resources that abound in their different localities within the State, coupled with enabling environment towards allowing them enjoy a peaceful and rewarding service year.
Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator NYSC, Mrs. Josephine Bakare, appreciated stakeholders of NYSC, especially the State government for various supports given to the scheme, especially provision of additional boreholes in the camp.
Bakare, admonished Corps members to always remember everything learnt during their Orientation Course, which should always serve as their guides, assuring that they would find Ogun State ’’a home away from home’’.
