Health care providers have been urged to intensify efforts towards enlightening members of the public on the symptoms of cancer, for early detection, prevention and management.
The Wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun stated this at a breast and cervical cancer awareness campaign organised by her office in collaboration with Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, (MWAN), Ogun State chapter, at Primary Health Centre, Sagamu.
Mrs. Abiodun, represented by the Wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs. Bolanle Oluomo, said information and education were vital to cancer detection, as well as saving lives.
She thanked MWAN for sensitising the public on the best possible ways to detect and manage the deadly disease, which had claimed many lives, saying that the programme should be regular and not limited to the cancer awareness month.
In his welcome address, the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Wale Bamiro, enjoined women to take advantage of the rare opportunity, appreciating the present administration for the rehabilitation of Baruwa- Eleja- Surulere- Bright fashy and Isaleoko- Hospital- Olororo roads, which he noted had given a new lease of life to over 350,000 inhabitants of the LGA.
Also speaking, the Aminisan of Oko, Sagamu, HRH Oba Mufutau Sanni commended the first Lady and MWAN for bringing the programme to their community, advising women to take advantage of the programme to know their health status.
He appreciated Governor Abiodun for embarking on developmental projects across the State, urging him to extend the kind gesture to other bad roads within the community to enhance the socio-economic development of the area.
