The Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko has reaffirmed that the creation of additional 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to the existing 20 Local Government Areas by the present administration had enhanced rapid grassroots development.
Ojuko made this known while speaking with newsmen during an assessment tour of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in Ogun Central Senatorial District of the State.
He said the creation of the LCDAs has brought Government nearer to the people and extending dividends of democracy to the grassroots, adding that, it has also continued to contribute to the development of the State, as the creation had fostered communal peace and progress among the people at all levels.
‘’The creation of the LCDAs have helped to complement the efforts of the State Government. Apart from bringing governance nearer to the masses and enhancing all round growth and development, it has also helped increase participation in governance,’’ Ojuko remarked.
While inspecting some projects embarked on by the Councils such as construction of motorized boreholes, grading of access roads, provision of drugs at health centres in Abeokuta metropolis amongst others, Ojuko commended the Chairmen for embarking on projects that would benefit the people, urging them not to relent.
In their various remarks, Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Lukman Sonekan, Abeokuta North Local Government, Hon. Akeemd Folarin, Abeokuta North East LCDA, Hon. Taofeek Olabode and Abeokuta South West LCDA, Hon. Tajudeen Jimoh, promised to intensify efforts at building lasting legacies that would stand the test of time.
