Ado-Odo Local Council Development Area has embarked on sensitisation of residents on the proper methods of preservation, to guard against consumption of contaminated food.
The Chairman of the Council, Engineer Saeed Alagbe, while speaking with stakeholders and residents at a town hall meeting, noted that unsafe food contains harmful bacteria, which could cause diseases and lead to untimely death, calling on the people to always protect their foods from being contaminated and ensure a clean environment at all times.
“Our government will continue to create necessary awareness for food safety by making sure that our people are healthy and able to carry out their everyday jobs regularly without setbacks. The awareness will not be limited to foods and drinks, but also the environment must be kept very clean and habitable at all times’’, he added.
Speaking earlier, the Director, Water Supply and Environmental Sanitation, Mrs. Opeoluwa Akinbowale, said the World Health Organisation (WHO), identified some keys to safe and healthy food to include; immediate washing of all utensils like plates, and cutleries after use, separating raw from cooked foods, keeping foods at normal temperature and using clean water to prepare food .
