JOURNALISTS CHARGED TO PROMOTE UNITY TO ENHANCE NATIONAL PEACE

Media practitioners have been enjoined to promote unity through objective and balanced reportage, in order to enhance national peace.

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who made the call at the commissioning of the Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Ogun State Information Chapel, situated within the State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said journalists are partners in progress, in the development of the nation, therefore needed to be factual, fair and objective in their information dissemination.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga said, ” Journalists are partners in progress and you have been doing a lot of reporting on behalf of the administration, so I want to charge you to continue to report rightly and be objective in whatever you do.
‘’Don’t forget the ethics of your profession, it is very important, you must not be corrupt, continue to promote this administration,” he said.

Amosun said the edifice was an achievement in the history of the State, enjoining Information Officers in the ministry to make good use of the secretariat by ensuring.

Governor Amosun admonished the pen professionals to shun any act inimical to their ethics, engage in educational talk and awareness that would boost the image of the present administration, as it was a joint effort of the union in promoting the image of the government.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Dayo Adeneye commended the joint efforts of the NUJ members of the ministry, for such an achievement, advising them not to rest on their oars.

Also speaking, the State Chairman, NUJ, Comrade Wole Sokunbi commended the Chapel’s efforts and called on other Chapels to emulate such act, while appealing to the State government to give necessary support to journalists for the development of the State.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Chapel, Comrade Wole Dosumu, appreciated the cooperation of the members, pointing out that the secretariat would be ICT based, where information would be disseminated and preserved for future references.

Present at the commissioning were; the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr. Peter Fagbohun, Acting General Managers of the Ogun State Television (OGTV), Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC), Mr. Festus Kehinde and Mr. Diji Akinhanmi respectively, Directors and Deputy Directors of the ministry.
