The Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) maintenance gang has commenced repair works on Iwe-Iroyin road, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, to ameliorate the suffering of the road users.
Speaking during an inspection to the site, the General Manager of the Agency, Arch. Gbenga Akintola, said the road was strategic and serves as major access to the central business district of the city.
He explained that, contrary to views in some quarters that government response to road maintenance was slow, the agency had to wait for the dry season, to allow unhindered work by the team, thereby maximizing man hours that would be spent on the roads.
He stated further that the road required an underground culvert that would link the water coming from Iwe-Iroyin area to the drainage along the Business District, adding that the drains in the area would be desilted, to allow free flow of water, as the raining season approaches.
“We are trying to make this road accessible for our road users through proper channelization of the expected water that will always come from the Housing Estate and Iwe-Iroyin junctions and to control this, we are placing culverts underneath the road which will lead the water to the drains on the other side”, Akintola said.
In a related development, the General Manager, Arch. Gbenga Akintola has disclosed that the remaining bad sections of the Sagamu-Abeokuta express road has been fixed, adding that work on the road would continually be done as situation demands.
