Traders in Ijebu-Ode have been charged to ensure cleanliness of their shops and market environs to promote wellbeing and healthy society.

The Transition Committee Chairman, Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Engr. Olugbenga Olugbile, gave the charge when he joined Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) to inspect ongoing construction of roads and clearing of drainages on Abeokuta road, Oshinubi, New Road and Fusigboye in Ijebu-Ode.

Engr. Olugbile who condemned attitude of dumping of refuse by some of the traders, which he said was the major cause of blockages in drainages, said the drainages were constructed to pave way for water flow, imploring them to support government in promoting a cleaner environment.

“The drainages in this Area have been blocked for a long time but we want to thank His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the quick intervention through the Ogun State Public Works Agency (OGPWA). We don’t want our traders to display their goods on the drainage or drops refuse in the drainages. Cultivate the habit of dumping your wastes appropriately”, Olugbile said.

He also warned against untoward habits of digging, pouring of waste water, especially from car wash facilities, repairing of vehicle, burning of tyres on roads, as well as cooking on roadsides.

Olugbile disclosed that the Environmental Marshall Task Force of the Local Government would be moving round from time to time to apprehend offenders and would be made to face the wrath of the law.
