The upcoming Gateway Tertiary Institution Games (GATIG) will produce quality athletes that will be part of the State’s team as it prepares for the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for November this year.

The Ogun State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Afolabi Afuape, who stated this during a press conference held at Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, Abeokuta, said since the National Sports Festival has been put on hold, the State has not been able to organise any major sporting event, expressing optimism that GATIG would be a major ground to discover more talents that could represent the State at NSF in Abuja.

The commissioner said the games which had been abandoned for some time, would be revived to further discover more talents that could make the State proud in the nearest future, assuring that his ministry would work on the possibility to institutionalize GATIG in the State.

While urging well meaning indigenes of the State and major stakeholders in sporting business to partner government for a successful games coming up between the month of April and May this year, Afuape disclosed that the State, presently, has ‘’the best Mudo track in the world’’.
