FOOD PRODUCTION: MORE FARMERS TO BE TRAINED ON MODERN FARMING

Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina has disclosed government’s plan to train more farmers on modern farming strategies to produce food and nutrition that would benefit the body.

Dr. Odedina stated this while receiving award of excellence from members of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), at the Conference Room of his Ministry in Abeokuta, saying that government’s vision was for the unemployment youths to be meaningfully engaged, with entrepreneurs realizing huge profits to boost the State’s economy.

He appreciated the AFAN members for honouring him, saying “your commitment to agriculture is what drives us to achieve our aim”, assuring them of the present administration’s readiness to reduce unemployment and poverty through agricultural innovations and promotions.

Presenting the awards, the Women Leader of the Association, Mrs Fausat Oyekunle, said the award was borne out of the all-inclusive drive employed by the Ministry to involve all categories of farmers in revamping the agricultural sector.

She called for more synergy between the Ministry and farmers, especially women, in the areas of accessibility to low interest loans, marketing, farmlands, processing, as well as training on modern trends in agricultural value-chain, among others.

Also speaking, the Youth Leader of the Association, Mr. Olorunsola Osasona, called for involvement of agriculture teachers in secondary schools in the implementation of various agricultural schemes, so that they can impart same to the students.

The Women Wing of the Association also presented awards to the Consultant to the Governor on Agriculture, Dr. (Mrs.) Angel Adelaja-Kuye and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Dotun Sorunke.
