The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has said that, the sustained Implementation of Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) embarked upon by the Federal Government would foster national growth and development.
Prof. Osinbajo who stated this in Abeokuta, while addressing delegates at the closing of the 17th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development Planning meeting, said Federal Government has laid solid foundation for the nation’s economy through ERGP, to benefit the people.
He explained that, the ERGP was different from other plans introduced by previous governments, as it contains clearly defined objectives, priorities, and targets, adding that the current administration was determined to sustain the implementation of the Plan.
Represented by the Minister of Budget and Planning, Senator Udo Udoma, Osinbajo, said the right infrastructure would be provided to open up the space for private investment, diversify the economy from crude oil dependence, and invest in the people, to give them a better life
“We will provide the right infrastructure, open up the space for private investment, diversify the economy from crude oil dependence, and more importantly, invest in our people and give them a better life.
‘’The success we have incurred since the implementation of ERGP is enormous, as majority of the citizens felt the impact, thereby calling on other States who have not embraced this programme to key into it, so as to achieve the aims and objectives needed to move the nation forward’’, Osinbajo submitted.
The Vice president reiterates the administration’s commitment at promoting good governance, which he said was an important enabler of economic growth and development, noting that the present administration would sustain efforts aimed at improving transparency and accountability, by blocking leakages, tax evasion and fight against corruption.
Speaking on the theme of the event, “Accelerating Implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, The Roles of the Stakeholders,’’ the Host Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, noted that it was apt and instructive at this critical time of the nation’s development, given the need for more effective approach to the nation’s economy.
The Governor, while commending President Buhari’s administration for restructuring the economy, said, the launch of ERGP in 2017, to chart a course for Nigeria’s economy, was a laudable initiative that must be sustained and built upon.
Senator Amosun called on political class, private sector, stakeholders and the entire citizenry, to be more proactive in the economic decision making processes, saying the EPGP has created the needed framework for growth and security of the nation’s economy.
