Agricultural Science students in tertiary institutions across Ogun State have been charged to key into various intervention programmes of the present administration targeted at the youth, by registering for Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP), to access loans and farmlands.
Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina, gave the charge while hosting members of National Association of Agricultural Students (NAAS), Ogun State Chapter, in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, saying the focus of Governor Dapo Abiodun led government in agriculture was basically on youth empowerment.
Dr. Odedina encouraged them to ensure that their extra-curricular activities were agric-oriented, urging them to study hard, in order to protect the prestige inherent in their area of specialization, so as to take leadership and professional roles in agriculture.
Speaking earlier, the National General Secretary of the Association, Mr. Abdul Wasiu Lawal, appealed for access to farmlands for practicals, to boost classroom knowledge, calling for the involvement of the Ministry of Education in career talk, to enable secondary school students know the opportunities embedded in agriculture.
