Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has challenged Community Development Associations (CDAs) in the State on the need to partner with State and Local Governments, on programmes that would add values to the well being of the people.
Governor Amosun stated this while declaring open a one- day seminar organised for State Chairmen of Area Community Development Committees, held the at Oba’s Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga, said Community Development Associations remain potential agents of development, considering their enormous communal projects, being carried out at community level, noting that, it has become imperative they partner with governments in their programmes in order to bring more development to the people.
‘’There are vital developmental programmes in the pipeline to be embarked upon by government, which are capable of facilitating rapid development at community level,’’ he said.
While acknowledging that community development programmes had come of age in the State, Governor Amosun, noted that Government would always appreciate their efforts, especially in the area of security and provision of basic amenities aimed at improving the well being of the people.
He opined that the seminar came at the right time, advising the participants to ensure they replicate the gains of the programme in their respective communities, as he re-assured the commitment of his administration at impacting positively on the lives of residents of the State.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Community Development and Cooperatives, Hon. Gbenga Adenmosun, said the Objective of the seminar was to equip community leaders at Area CDC level with the requisite knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage their areas.
“The seminar is aimed at stimulating and sensitising them on the need to complement government efforts on its rebuilding agenda,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Adekunle Adeosun, appreciated community members who pay their taxes promptly, pledging to support communities in their developmental initiatives for the benefits of the people.
