The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has felicitated with the 54th president, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Alhaji Rasak Jaiyeola, with a charge on him to respond appropriately to the increasing demand for transparency and accountability, particularly in the public sector.
Speaking in Lagos at the investiture of the new ICAN President, Governor Amosun said, at no other time in the history of the nation has the need for transparency and accountability been more compelling than now.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief ( Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga congratulated Alhaji Jaiyeola on his election and lauded the tradition of seamless change of headship at the Institute, noting that every member of ICAN had contributed immensely to the upliftment of the profession, as well as the socio -economy of the nation.
Senator Amosun while praying to God to strengthen and see the new President through, urged him to be focused, saying that it was a call to service.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Jaiyeola while appreciating God for the privilege to serve, pledged to consolidate on the successes recorded by past leaders, assuring that he would work in tandem with other members, to strengthen and ensure that the institute maintain its pride of place, in the scheme of things in the nation.
He said the institute would continue to deploy its expertise to assist the government in the crusade against sharp practices, as it would collaborate with security agencies to build forensic capacity, through its faculties.
Earlier, the immediate past President of the Institute, Mallam Ismaila Muhammadu Zakari in his valedictory speech, promised the institute of his continued support, with assurance to defend the ideals of the profession at all times, admonishing all members to support his successor.
